Getting Started

AnimeDoc is a real, running API — one catalog covering both anime/animation and general movies, with two ways to authenticate depending on how you're using it.

How access works

There are two ways in, and only one of them works outside this website.

  • On animedoc.cloud itself: browse and search everything free, and watch 3 videos as a guest, then sign up free to keep watching. The website talks to the backend through its own short-lived, visitor-bound access that only works on this site — copying it into curl, Postman or another site doesn't work.
  • Everywhere else (your own app, server, bot, curl): an API key is required on every catalog endpoint. It starts on the Free plan (20 requests/day, 10/minute); a paid plan raises the limits and adds the stream proxy.

Watching on the website

Pick a section (Anime, Movies, TV Series, K-Drama & Asian, Bollywood, Nollywood), hover a title for its trailer and press play: continue watching, quality selection, subtitles and auto-next episodes. Guests get 3 free videos, then sign up free to keep watching. An account is also what you use to create and manage an API key.

Using the API (API key)

Sign in, generate an API key on the Pricing page (it works right away on the Free plan; buy a plan for higher limits), then pass it as a header. Each plan has a requests-per-day quota (reset 00:00 UTC) and a requests-per-minute limit; going over returns 429 with a Retry-After header. Keep it server-side — never embed it in a public frontend. Upgrading your plan (or renewing) updates the same key rather than issuing a new one — it just works until that plan's period ends, then stops until you renew. If a key is ever compromised, regenerate it from the same Pricing page (keeps your plan/expiry, rotates the secret value); you can also see every call made with your key there.

Base URL

All requests go to https://api.animedoc.cloud. The index, OpenAPI spec and llms.txt are readable without a key, so AI coding assistants can discover every endpoint.

1GET https://api.animedoc.cloud/api/v2/ → index of every endpoint
2GET https://animedoc.cloud/openapi.json → OpenAPI 3.1 spec
3GET https://animedoc.cloud/llms-full.txt → full reference for AI assistants
